Can I create a will online?

Yes — both Louisiana and Texas allow you to create a will online, as long as it meets state-specific legal requirements. At Hollander Law, our process ensures your will is properly executed, compliant with all laws, and reviewed by an experienced attorney.

Are online wills legally valid in Louisiana and Texas?

Yes, but each state has different rules.

  • In Louisiana, wills must be printed, signed by the testator on every page, and witnessed by two adults. Notarization is recommended but not required.
  • In Texas, wills must be signed by the testator and witnessed by two credible individuals (unless it’s a holographic will). Notarization isn’t required, but a self-proving affidavit (notarized) helps speed up probate.

Do I need a lawyer to make a will?

You’re not legally required to have a lawyer, but working with an estate planning attorney helps ensure your will is enforceable, clear, and tailored to your situation. Hollander Law offers a hybrid solution — online convenience with legal oversight.

What should a will include?

A valid will typically includes:

  • Your legal name and residence
  • A list of your assets
  • Named beneficiaries
  • An executor to carry out your wishes

Specific directions for dependents or final arrangements

What are the key requirements for a valid will in each state?

Louisiana:

  • Testator must be 18+ and of sound mind
  • Will must be signed on every page
  • Must have two witnesses present
  • Should include a date
  • Notarization is strongly recommended

Texas:

  • Testator must be 18+, married, or in the military
  • Must be in writing (typed or handwritten)
  • Must be signed by the testator
  • Two witnesses are required (unless it’s a holographic will)
  • A self-proving affidavit with a notary simplifies probate

Can I update my will later?

Yes. Life changes and your will should too! You can amend or revoke a will at any time, as long as you’re mentally competent. It’s smart to review your estate plan after major life events like marriage, divorce, or new children.

What’s the difference between a will and a trust?

A will outlines how assets should be distributed after death and often goes through probate. A trust allows assets to be managed and distributed privately, can avoid probate, and offers more control — especially helpful in complex family or financial situations.

Do wills need to be filed with the court?

Only after death. In both Louisiana and Texas, wills must be submitted to the appropriate court for probate (also called “succession” in Louisiana) to begin the legal asset distribution process.

Do I need to notarize my will?

Not required, but a notarial will offer more legal protection.

How much does it cost to create a will?

Costs can vary based on complexity and the method used. At Hollander Law, we provide an affordable, attorney-reviewed online option — offering peace of mind and legal security without the high price tag.
